Abstract
We performed transvaginal ultrasound in 549 tamoxifen treated breast cancer postmenopausal women and detectes ovarian cysts in 64 of them (11.65%). These patients were studied prospectively and initiated treatent with Goserelin for a period ranging from 6 to 9 months. After a period of treatment ranging from 3 to 9 months, all but ovarian cysts disappeared (96.8%). On follow up, 12 months later, six patients developed again ovarian cysts.
In conclusion, ovarian cysts which are relatively common side effect of tamoxifen treated postmenopausal women, can be effectively treated with GnRH agonists administration, that cases regression of the ovarian cysts and therefore permits continuation of the adjuvant tamoxifen treatment.
