Abstract: Endometriosis-associated chronic pelvic pain
Endometriosis is one of the most common cause of pelvic pain in women, though its mechanism is still not fully understood. Studies have shown that a complex mix of nociceptive, inflammatory, or neuropathic mechanisms, as well as angiogenetic, neurovascular mechanisms and the oxidative stress seem to contribute to the generation of chronic pelvic pain. Within this context, identifying the characteristics of the endometriotic lesions responsible for pain, together with the possible physiopathological mechanisms will enable the creation of useful criteria to be proposed for the therapeutic management of endometriosis.
